In their Research Article (e202506625), Chong-An Chen, Bingbing Zhang, Kang Min Ok, and co-workers report novel birefringent crystals featuring linear interhalogen birefringence-active groups, IX2⁻ (X=Cl, Br). The compounds, [H-4AP][Icl2], [HDMA]2[ICl2]·Cl, [H-4AP][IBr2], and [HDMA]2[IBr2]·Br, exhibit giant birefringence in both the visible and near-infrared regions, while achieving an optimal balance between large birefringence and moderate bandgap.
