At first glance, the pros and cons of MXene nanosheets are presented and compared with other nanofillers, and different ways of modifying the MXene-based nanosheets are considered. The modification methods are divided into three main categories including covalent or non-covalent functionalization, synthesis of nanohybrids, and co-approach of nanohybrid preparation and functionalization. Moreover, theoretical studies about anti-corrosion polymer/MXene nanocomposite coatings are presented to reveal the importance of theoretical simulations in addition to experimental results. Abstract
