Abstract

(Vinyl triflimide)benziodolium salts were developed as new hypervalent iodine reagents. A cascade of diarylation/oxidation reactions with the benziodolium salts was accomplished in the presence of palladium catalysts. The reaction exhibits extensive compatibility with readily available arylboronic acids, giving a diverse array of benzyl derivatives in good yields. The benzils can serve as versatile intermediates in fine chemical synthesis.
