Abstract
Diversity and health system leadership issues in health care may seem like unilateral topics, but the literature states otherwise. Institutional and organizational leaders have been encouraged to find ways to better support those who are underrepresented in medicine in health care, seek ways to improve retention, and support leadership development across the system. While current research efforts have been successful in getting us where we currently are, we still have more work to do to improve representation in health care and improve leadership practices in health care. The Families, Systems, and Health journal can contribute to the change that is needed to support new research and scholarship endeavors to move the needle to transform who will be on the health care team in the near future. In the meantime, we need to focus on practices that are grounded in quality research and have a strong evidence base to ensure that the work that we do in health care is documented in the scientific literature as we wait for you all to submit new literature to get us ready for the challenges ahead.
