Abstract
Landau and Peierls wrote down the Hamiltonian of a simplified version of quantum electrodynamics in the particle-position representation. We present a multi-time version of their Schrödinger equation, which bears several advantages over their original equation: the time evolution equations are simpler and more natural; they are more transparent with respect to choice of gauge; and, perhaps most importantly, they are manifestly Lorentz covariant. We discuss properties of the multi-time equations. Along the way, we also discuss the Lorentz covariant 3d Dirac delta distribution for spacelike surfaces and the inner product of photon wave functions on spacelike surfaces in an arbitrary gauge.

Annals of Physics presents original work in all areas of basic theoretic physics research. Ideas are developed and fully explored, and thorough treatment is given to first principles and ultimate applications. Annals of Physics emphasizes clarity and intelligibility in the articles it publishes, thus making them as accessible as possible. Readers familiar with recent developments in the field are provided with sufficient detail and background to follow the arguments and understand their significance.
The Editors of the journal cover all fields of theoretical physics. Articles published in the journal are typically longer than 20 pages.
