To guide the high-quality application of OR in tourism, this study adopts a systematic literature review approach to analyze this issue in the last decade. This study explores the current status of OR in tourism, research topics and methods, and future research directions. Results show that as an interdisciplinary study, OR in tourism is widely recognized and applied in the areas of prediction, optimization, simulation, and evaluation and decision streams. Various OR methods are used in different research topics, such as tourism demand forecasting, tourism performance evaluation, and tourism recommendation systems. Future research should combine big data, artificial intelligence, and other technologies to address shortcomings in research streams. Abstract

Despite the recognized importance of operations research (OR) in tourism, few studies have systematically reviewed it to foster the profound merging of OR and tourism.
