Abstract

Structural coloration in textiles based on photonic crystals has recently been studied by numerous researchers around the world. This review discusses the recent research being done in the area of structurally colored textiles and discusses the mechanism involved in these structural colors. In addition, it comprehends the factors that influence the final structural color in detail that have been studied in literature; also, it proposes how the structural color may be finely tuned by systematically altering these factors. Moreover, it also elucidates the methods that have been used to evaluate the structure and color stability of the textiles. Finally, it also shares insights about the possible health effects that might be caused due to the use of these metallic nanoparticles to achieve structural color and proposes the potential applications.
