[Inflammatory myopathies in adults. Place of polyvalent immunoglobulins].

Abstract

Inflammatory myopathies are a heterogeneous group of multi-system autoimmune diseases affecting skeletal muscle. High-dose intravenous immunoglobulins have immunomodulatory properties useful in the treatment of many autoimmune diseases. This review proposes to explore their mechanisms of action and the available evidence concerning their efficacy in inflammatory myopathies. The intravenous immunoglobulins have a good safety profile, but their high cost and limited availability mean that they must be prescribed with caution.
