Abstract

Recent events have highlighted the necessity of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within nursing. Despite progress, White/Caucasian female populations remain the dominant race and gender in nursing nationwide. A level one trauma center in the Southeast region of the U.S. created a Registered Nurse Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Support Council embedded within the organization’s professional governance structure to empower nurses with shared decision-making support to promote retention and satisfaction. This article will explain the creation of the Support Council, its activities and impact on the nursing teammates, and implications for future nursing practice.
