Abstract

Nursing workforce challenges that require innovative solutions emerged during the pandemic. Two Magnet©-designated hospitals invested in masters-prepared Clinical Nurse Leaders to bridge the experience gap and matriculate novice nurses into practice, retain experienced nurses in patient facing and hybrid clinical-leadership roles, and ensure safe and high-quality nursing outcomes were obtained. Clinical Nurse Leaders bridge the leadership and experiential gap by grooming the nurses of tomorrow while supporting the seasoned nurses of today and yesterday to sustain a strong workforce. Today’s healthcare environment necessitates a transformation of the leadership model by Chief Nurses to meet the growing demand and sustain a thriving nursing profession.
