Abstract

The psychosocial and mental health challenges of living with lipoedema are well documented and may influence motivation and confidence with self-care. This article provides a background to the condition, reviewing evidence regarding the psychological impacts of lipoedema. It discusses how two psychological theories, self-regulation theory and self-determination theory, can provide insights for health professionals supporting women with lipoedema. Case studies illustrate the implications for practice.
