Abstract

This paper investigated the kinematic behaviors of piggy-backed anchors composed of two vertically loaded anchors. The embedding tests were conducted using two Dennla anchor models with a 1:30 scale by 3D printing technology. The orientation and motion of the model anchor were continuously monitored during the embedment process by a 6-DOF magnetometer system. This study, which included six groups of tests, provided a comprehensive investigation of the trajectory, installation load, pitch angle and fluke-shank angle of vertically loaded anchor (VLA) embedding, considering factors such as spacing, attachment point, initial fluke-shank angle and aspect ratio load. The findings of this research will enhance the comprehension of VLA performance in tandem systems and optimize the design and combinations of piggy-backed VLAs.

Acta Geotechnica is an international journal devoted to the publication and dissemination of basic and applied research in geoengineering – an interdisciplinary field dealing with geomaterials such as soils and rocks. Coverage emphasizes the interplay between geomechanical models and their engineering applications. The journal presents original research papers on fundamental concepts in geomechanics and their novel applications in geoengineering based on experimental, analytical and/or numerical approaches. The main purpose of the journal is to foster understanding of the fundamental mechanisms behind the phenomena and processes in geomaterials, from kilometer-scale problems as they occur in geoscience, and down to the nano-scale, with their potential impact on geoengineering. The journal strives to report and archive progress in the field in a timely manner, presenting research papers, review articles, short notes and letters to the editors.
