Abstract
Cooling in thermal treatment has a large influence on mechanical behavior of granite. Results from previous laboratory tests show that the variation of mechanical parameter is different for granite specimens treated by different cooling methods. However, the underlying mechanism of how different cooling methods affect the mechanical behavior of granite is not completely understood. In this study, a total of 20 sets of test data of granite treated by different cooling methods in thermal damage are first collected. The variations of mechanical parameters of granite with treatment temperature and thermal cycle are then studied, respectively. The variations of mechanical parameters in response to the change of treatment temperature and thermal cycle under different cooling treatments are classified into several types. At last, the mechanisms of cooling in thermal gradient treatment and thermal cyclic treatment are comprehensively discussed. The results in this study provide useful insight in better understanding the mechanism of how different cooling methods in thermal treatment affect the mechanical behavior of granite.
