Abstract

This article describes the history of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, including its conception, initial publication, remarkable growth, and international standing. The Journal is the oldest subspecialty journal in anesthesiology and has served as a model for the many other anesthesia subspecialty journals that have followed in its footsteps since it was first published in 1987. The Journal has seamlessly embraced and advanced knowledge about new developments in clinical practice throughout its nearly 40-year history of excellence. Led by its Editor-in-Chief Joel Kaplan and its Editorial Board, the Journal remains at the forefront of the most important advances in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular anesthesia.
