Abstract
An 11-year-old male patient presented 2 erythematous macules on the upper gum, above the central incisors, after using maxillary expansion 1 year ago. Given the positive diascopy, the diagnostic hypothesis was a vascular lesion. Two different protocols using photocoagulation with a high potency 980 nm diode laser (Thera Lase Surgery, DMC, SP, Brazil) were chosen for the treatment. There were 2 lesions in the attached gum: in tooth 11 a 1W and continuous mode were used, whereas in tooth 21, a 2W and pulsed mode were used. Consequently, within 14 days, an ulcer was observed only in the region of the former, and after 30 days, there was complete remission of the lesions in both regions; a better appearance on the left side was observed, though. It is concluded that photocoagulation with a high-potency diode laser is an effective option for oral vascular lesions, with the pulsed mode being preferable.
期刊介绍:
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology is required reading for anyone in the fields of oral surgery, oral medicine, oral pathology, oral radiology or advanced general practice dentistry. It is the only major dental journal that provides a practical and complete overview of the medical and surgical techniques of dental practice in four areas. Topics covered include such current issues as dental implants, treatment of HIV-infected patients, and evaluation and treatment of TMJ disorders. The official publication for nine societies, the Journal is recommended for initial purchase in the Brandon Hill study, Selected List of Books and Journals for the Small Medical Library.
