Beside tailoring the cultivation of native producers, genetic engineering is a feasible strategy to accrue the production of lipid metabolites and to introduce heterologous biosynthetic pathways in microalgal hosts. Abstract

Marine phytoplankton is an emerging source of immunomodulatory bioactive lipids (BLs).
