Recent Advances in the Application of Selectfluor as a Versatile Reactant in Organic Photo- and Electrochemical Synthesis

Abstract

Selectfluor [1-chloromethyl-4-fluoro-1,4-diazoniabicyclo-[2.2.2]octane bis(tetrafluoroborate)] is a versatile reagent in organic synthetic chemistry. As a renowned electrophilic fluorinating agent, Selectfluor is widely acknowledged as a crucial source of fluorine for various fluorination reactions. Moreover, it is employed as a “fluorine-free” reagent comprising a transition metal oxidant, a fluorine anion, and a radical initiator; achieving various other organic transformations. Notably, Selectfluor can also serve as an amine or a methylene source in organic synthesis. Recently, there has been growing interest in the application of Selectfluor as a versatile reactant in photo- and electrochemistry. In this review, a comprehensive overview of Selectfluor's application as a fluorine or amine source in organic photo- and electrochemical strategies over the past decade, is provided.
