Abstract
The present study aimed to prepare nanoemulsions loaded with tannic acid-copper (II) complex (TA-Cu), as well as evaluate their potential for the treatment of neuropsychiatric diseases. The nanoemulsions were stabilized by proteoglycans from Agaricus blazei Murill mushroom (PAbM) and their physicochemical characterization showed droplet sizes lower than 250 nm, low polydispersity, ζ-potential greater than the modulus of 20 mV and spherical morphology. Assessment of acute toxicity and anxiolytic potential in adult zebrafish indicated the safety of the nanoformulations at the doses tested (LD50 > 40 mg/kg), as well as their ability to reduce anxious-like behavior (4–40 mg/kg), whose activity is involved in the modulation of the GABAergic system. The results obtained for this new nanoformulation are promising to guide future clinical trials.
