Abstract
The effect of artificial weathering and/or hygrothermal ageing on the thermomechanical properties of epoxy amine coating and the subsequent effect on the residual stresses (thermal and hygroscopic stresses) was investigated. Variations in the thermomechanical properties of coatings after artificial weathering and/or hygrothermal ageing, in comparison to fresh samples, were evaluated through various analyses. Feasibility of the determination of coefficient of hygroscopic expansion () from the slope of the plot of polynomial-fitted hygroscopic strain (ϵhygro) and moisture concentration at saturation (Csat) was also assessed. Residual stresses of 229 MPa and 334 MPa were calculated based on experimentally determined properties. These stresses were found to exceed the compressive strength of the coatings, which explains the delamination observed in peel-off adhesion tests.
期刊介绍:
The aim of this international journal is to analyse and publicise the progress and current state of knowledge in the field of organic coatings and related materials. The Editors and the Editorial Board members will solicit both review and research papers from academic and industrial scientists who are actively engaged in research and development or, in the case of review papers, have extensive experience in the subject to be reviewed. Unsolicited manuscripts will be accepted if they meet the journal''s requirements. The journal publishes papers dealing with such subjects as:
• Chemical, physical and technological properties of organic coatings and related materials
• Problems and methods of preparation, manufacture and application of these materials
• Performance, testing and analysis.
