Abstract
This study investigated wastewater treatment by a local textile company using an electrooxidation (EO) process. A Ti/TiO2–RuO2–IrO2 electrode produced by spray coating was used as the anode. The EO process variables used to treat textile wastewater were optimized using the Box-Behnken Design. Color, COD, and TOC removal were selected as the model responses. Under optimum conditions (pH 3, current density 58.03 mA cm−2, and 3.04 h), the optimization resulted in removal efficiencies of 97 % for color, 84 % for COD, and 53 % for TOC. The operating cost under optimal conditions was calculated to 6.01 $ (kg COD)−1. A novel spray coating technique was successfully employed to fabricate Ti/TiO2–RuO2–IrO2 electrodes for wastewater treatment via the EO process. The optimized EO process using this anode offers a promising, low-cost, and rapid method for large-scale wastewater treatment.
