Abstract
The paper focuses on carbon ion implantation of samples made of constructional aircraft-graded steel VNS‑5. The obtained modified layer is about 200 nm thick, while the carbon content is not over 10%. Unlike untreated samples, the corrosion resistance of ion-implanted samples increases by 3 times. Fatigue tests show that the corrosion damage improves the material resistance to fracture at the load ranging from 700 to 1100 MPa.
