Philanthropy and Living Our Values Everyday

Abstract

A Grateful Patient Program was implemented at a community hospital to provide patients and families with the opportunity to convey expressions of gratitude about the care or services they received from nurses. Expressions of gratitude were in the form of financial donations to support and invest in nursing programs and practice. A comprehensive and collaborative approach was taken to educate the team on their role in philanthropy and ensure alignment and consistency in living our values everyday as we serve our community. The results of this effort led to a significant increase in donors and donations to support nursing.
