Abstract

Despite the growing interest in nurses' wellness research, little evidence exists on nurses' experiences and the influence of nursing leadership on enhancing psychological safety from both global and Sub-Saharan Africa perspectives. This paper reflects on nurses’ experiences and the role of leadership in fostering psychological safety. In developed countries, psychological safety is linked to open communication, supportive environments, and effective team dynamics, though hierarchical barriers remain a challenge. Sub-Saharan nurses face unique challenges, including high workloads, inadequate resources, and traditional power dynamics, which require established leadership and supportive cultures. By fostering psychological safety, healthcare leaders can cultivate resilient, engaged, and innovative teams capable of delivering high-quality care in challenging environments.
