Abstract
A novel uranium-osmium-aluminide, namely U3Os4Al11.84(4), is reported. It crystallizes in a hexagonal structure of the Gd3Ru4Al12-type where the magnetic U-atoms are forming a breathing kagome lattice favorable for the occurrence of magnetic frustrations. Accordingly, measurements of the magnetic and specific heat properties, down to 1.8 K and under magnetic fields up to 13 T, show the coexistence/competition between the formation of a long-range magnetic ordering below 5.0 K – most probably of antiferromagnetic nature - and some spin-glass-like features.
