Abstract

Objective: To describe the mean systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure among adults in China in 2015-2017.

Methods: The data was from the China Nutrition and Health Surveillance(2015-2017), and the research objects were from 31 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities) in mainland China. In this study, 182 356 adults aged 18 years and above with complete blood pressure data were selected as subjects. Blood pressure was measured by Omron HBP1300 electronic blood manometer. The measurement results were weighted using the sixth census data released by the National Bureau of Statistics in 2010. SAS 9.4 software was used to clean and analyze the data and describe the mean blood pressure.

Results: From 2015 to 2017, the mean blood pressure of Chinese adults were 130.15 mmHg/77.93 mmHg, respectively. The mean blood pressure(DBP) of males(132.39/80.22 mmHg) were higher than those of females(127.90/75.63 mmHg). The mean blood pressure of rural residents(132.44/78.53 mmHg) were higher than those of urban residents(128.01/77.37 mmHg). The mean blood pressure of northern residents(132.20/78.93 mmHg) were higher than those of southern residents(128.75/77.25 mmHg). The mean blood pressure of residents in the central region(131.58/78.60 mmHg) were higher than those in the eastern(129.66 mmHg/78.12 mmHg) and western regions(129.26/76.84 mmHg). The mean systolic blood pressure and mean diastolic blood pressure of adults aged 18 or over in China increased with age.

Conclusion: The average blood pressure of Chinese adults was at a high level in 2015-2017, especially among rural residents and the elderly.
