Novel approaches for preventing COVID-19 infection in immunocompromised patients with hematologic malignancies.

A limitation to vaccination is suboptimal immune responses in immunocompromised patients, particularly those with abnormalities in lymphocyte count and function. Abstract

Introduction: COVID-19 is a continuing challenge for immunocompromised patients with hematological malignancies. Such patients are at increased risk for complications, including hospitalization, respiratory failure, delay of anti-cancer therapies, and even death. Further advances in our knowledge regarding the formation and function of blood cells and blood-forming tissues should ensue, and it will be a major challenge for hematologists to adopt these new paradigms and develop integrated strategies to define the best possible patient care.
