Abstract

This review provides a critical analysis of the global water and sanitation crisis, as well as how community-based approaches have led to innovative water management solutions. Regions of sub-Saharan Africa, south Asia, the Middle East, and island countries have been taken as models to understand mitigating crises related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. Selected WASH cases based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria that highlighted finance, sustainability, and community engagement. The review analyses methods through which communities below the poverty line, living in densely populated areas, war zones, and island countries can foster innovation, and collaborations.
