Abstract
Electricity demand is outstripping the ability of markets and electric grids to respond quickly to meeting the generation and transmission and distribution system needs for supporting a 21st-century economy. Electricity demand is increasing faster than it has in decades as manufacturing rebounds, and data centers and cryptocurrency mining operations proliferate across the United States. At the same time, there is mounting pressure on governments globally to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the electricity sector by transitioning buildings and transportation systems away from fossil fuels to electricity.
