Abstract

Orthopaedic sports medicine surgeons represent a specialized group of physicians who play a unique role in caring for a high-demand patient population. Because of this population's requirements, surgeons may choose to take on a variety of responsibilities depending on his/her unique interests. These responsibilities include direct patient care, sports team coverage, research, teaching/mentoring, involvement with organizations, and collaboration with industry. For those looking to be more involved in advancing our field, this letter details each of these methods of contribution. Every member of our community can contribute based on personal interests and developing the skills involved with each of these categories.
