This exploratory study aims to identify the perceived advantages and disadvantages, perceived approval and disapproval by important others, and perceived barriers and facilitators pertaining to reducing red meat consumption among adults. An online questionnaire based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour was used to elicit the salient beliefs of 55 red meat eaters living in the province of Quebec (Canada). A content analysis performed by two independent coders revealed that the predominant themes (modal beliefs) included health, environment, saving money, food preferences, social influence, perceptions of the alternatives of meat, and efforts related to change.
