By accounting for spatio-temporal changes in the population, size selectivity between survey gears, and minimizing bias from partially overlapping survey areas, we demonstrate major changes in the abundance and distribution over the past three decades. Notably, increases of abundance in the Eastern English Channel and south-eastern North Sea result in an overall increase in the abundance and biomass of the population. Vulnerability of elasmobranchs to fishing and declines in populations over the last decades have prompted calls for improved fisheries management and conservation efforts.
