Abstract
Miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) produces effective and stable correction of transverse maxillary deficiency in skeletally mature adolescents and adults. MARPE devices may be classified into two categories based on their design: bone-borne (BB) and tooth-bone-borne (TBB), also known as hybrid. A consensus on optimal appliance design and clinical indications is currently lacking. This narrative review provides a summary of the available evidence regarding BB and TBB devices and offers clinical recommendations for appliance selection.
