Laminite aguda em um equino

Abstract

Locomotor injuries are responsible for the vast majority of requests from veterinarians, such injuries may refer to laminitis, which is a common disease within equine medicine and is considered one of the main diseases responsible for causing lameness in horses. Also known as diffuse aseptic pododermatitis or watering, laminitis is an inflammatory disease that affects the hooves of horses, with several mechanisms that can lead to laminar degeneration and if not diagnosed and treated in time, the animal can be euthanized. Its causes are diverse, but we can mention excessive physical exercise, metabolic changes, excess grains in the diet and weight overload. The objective of this essay is to report the case of a 6-year-old male Quarter Horse, diagnosed with acute laminitis after suffering trauma to the pectoral muscle.
