This variability in otolith shape might be attributed to the variation in environmental conditions prevailing in the sampling locations. The linear discriminant analysis based on elliptic Fourier descriptors and Wavelet coefficients showed an overall classification success of 89.03 % and 89.20 %, respectively. The present study validated that the lapillar otoliths are ideal for investigating the population structure of cyprinid fishes like <em>L. dussumieri</em>.
