Abstract
Abstract. The available literature shows an association between systemic disorders and periodontal disease. Together with the benefit of bidirectional treatment, it implies the need for good communication, in addition to the accurate knowledge based on the periosystemic connection. Objective of the study. To highlight the benefits of the multidisciplinary approach between the dental practitioner, physicians and patient itself to ensure bidirectional management of oral and general health. Material and methods. The authors will describe the most common general diseases that affect the status of oral health and will present a clinical case. Results. The use of periodontal diagnostic and screening tools - photographic study, radiological film analysis, recording periodontal clinical parameters in the periodontal chart, multidisciplinary communication that can contribute to the monitoring and management of periodontal diseases. Conclusions. Establishing good communication between dental and general practitioners as well as with the patient is important to promote health and avoid serious complications. This multidisciplinary interaction is essential in clinical counseling, health education and disease prevention.
