Abstract

In recent years, technological advancements have led to significant transformations in relational dynamics, particularly regarding surveillance mechanisms and abuse within marital relationships. These technological developments have simplified and expanded the possibilities of control in marital relationships, giving rise to the emergence of new forms of coercion, notably cyber sexual violence. In this interview with Jean-Pierre Bouchard, Alexandre Gauthier, Andréanne Lapierre, Tamsin Higgs, and Marina Sorochinski explore this new form of coercion by addressing its definition, scope, motivations, and characteristics of the perpetrators of such violence, the consequences of this form of violence on victims, as well as the legal aspects surrounding these acts. The researchers conclude by proposing some preventive measures that may reduce the frequency of cyber sexual violence within intimate relationships and protect victims.
