Electric drive systems have the potential to substantially increase the efficiency of combat vehicles. The demand for electrical power in AFV has grown beyond the limits of that can be managed by the existing 28-V dc system. There is a necessity to switch from the single electrical bus configuration to a dual bus voltage configuration. This article describes the design procedure of a novel permanent magnet (PM) dual voltage generator for simultaneously providing power at two different voltages.
