‘Death of the Journal’: An editor's view

Abstract

• Many academic journals are discontinued; however, there is little discussion of this.
• Based on one specific case, this essay shows how changes in the systems of evaluation and funding science impact a journal.
• A lack of quality submissions and of publishers' will to support and/or pay a journal can lead to its discontinuation.
