The Effects of Shifting Work Arrangements During the COVID-19 on the Work-life Balance of Women Employed in Jeju

Abstract

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses actively implemented new work arrangements(work from home, flexible work arrangement, untact work)with both the goals of infection prevention and improved operational efficiency. The influence of these changes to workplace arrangements on workers' work-family balance is an issue of disagreement. This study examines the impact of work arrangements on the work-life balance of female employee in Jeju during the COVID-19 pandemic. We used data from the 2021 Jeju Women Workers Survey and conducted a multinomial logit analysis. The study revealed that changes in places of employment due to the pandemic had a negative impact on the work-life balance of female employees in Jeju. Policy considerations should focus on how the development and expansion of work systems, such telecommuting, work from home, untact work might affect the work-life balance of female employees.
