Synergistic working: dental core trainees and foundation doctors in OMFS

Abstract

We describe our experience of multidisciplinary teamworking in the oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) department at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, which has a unique setup including both foundation doctors and dental core trainees (DCTs). Very few other units in the UK utilise DCTs and foundation doctors working together at a junior level in OMFS. This article explores the advantages and disadvantages of this interdisciplinary approach, and why we believe that other departments should also adopt this strategy
