Abstract
A pump is a device that can move fluid from one place to another through a piping medium by adding energy to the fluid being moved and this occurs continuously. Centrifugal pumps, as a type of pump that is often found in industry, work on the principle of rotation of the impeller as a fluid transfer element driven by a prime mover. Sudden drops in pump performance and instability in operation often become serious problems and disrupt overall system performance. Vibration analysis is the key to successful predictive maintenance because the condition of rotating equipment in operation can be seen in the vibration patterns (symptoms). Vibration can be triggered by cavitation and corrosion in the pump. Continuous operation of the pump in a cavitation state for a long period of time causes the surface of the channel walls around the flow to be eaten away, resulting in holes.
