Abstract
The methods of designing modern radial magnetic bearings (RMBs) vary depending on the operating conditions, operating mode, and requirements conditioned by the outfit design. Insufficient accuracy in calculating design parameters due to imperfections of a design method can cause several issues, such as reduced bearing capacity of magnetic bearings and complication of control system algorithms. This article considers various radial magnetic-bearing designs and, then, reveals the dependence of the electromagnetic force and flux density on the winding current by making a finite-element analysis of the magnetic circuit.
