Nikolay Katanov’s heritage: domestic museum collections (review of the kunstkamera foundations)

Abstract

The article declares relevance at the present stage of further search, study, systematization and introduction into scientific circulation of the unpublished archival and museum heritage of Kazan University professor N.F. Katanov, one of the brigh test and most colorful national scientists and thinkers of Russian science, education and culture, an outstanding representative of the Khakass people and Turkic-speaking peoples of Eurasia.The article is devoted to a brief review of the main museum funds and collections of N. F. Katanov, in particular to his unknown clothing collections stored in the Russian Academy of Science's Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) in St. Petersburg, collected by the traveler in the Minusinsk district, Uriankhai region and East Turkestan during his scientific expedition to Siberia and East Turkestan in 1889–1892. These collections were not introduced into scientific and educational circulation and are published for the first time.
