On the experience of the use of armored vehicles by the internal troops of the NKVD in the fight against Ukrainian nationalist gangs on the territory of Western Ukraine in 1944–1945

Abstract

The article reveals the historical experience of the use of armored vehicles by the internal troops of the NKVD in the fight against Ukrainian nationalist gangs on the territory of Western Ukraine in the third period of the Great Patriotic War. In 1944, due to the fact that the OUN-UPA had the strength to act in large formations, the use of tanks turned out to be the most effective. Since the beginning of 1945, due to the fact that the nationalists changed the tactics of confrontation, breaking up into mobile small detachments and groups quickly hiding in the forest, the use of tanks gradually became ineffective.
