Abstract

Ineffective pain treatment causes complicated situations, such as poor recovery and chronic pain in the patient. The recognition of feline pain is a great challenge, requiring training and scoring systems to assess pain in cats. Pain classification methods were created with the aim of helping professionals. The aim of this review was to verify which pain assessment and antinociception methods were used to assess the analgesic efficacy of opioids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in cats with acute pain. The most used pain assessment method was thermal stimulation. Most studies found showed the analgesic efficacy of drugs.
