Optical fiber sensors in infrastructure monitoring: a comprehensive review

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this article is to review and further promote the application of optical fiber sensor technology in infrastructure monitoring. Compared with traditional sensors, optical fiber sensors have low maintenance costs and are small in size; consequently, they have gradually become a future development direction of sensors. This paper introduces the basic principles of several commonly used optical fiber sensors and the progress of optical fiber sensors in the monitoring of physical, mechanical, and chemical parameters and demonstrates applications of optical fiber sensors in infrastructure.
