Descending Colon Cancer with Hepatic Metastasis on Abdominal Ultrasound in Patients with Left Lower Abdominal Pain

Abstract

Ultrasound is essential for differential diagnosis in patients with left lower quadrant (LLQ) abdominal pain. Causes of LLQ pain are variable such as diverticulitis, colitis, appendagitis, and rarely appendicitis (in situs inversus). Colon cancer also is an occasional cause. Ultrasound findings of colon cancer are irregular wall thickening with loss of wall stratification and luminal narrowing. We report a case of descending colon cancer with hepatic metastasis detected on abdominal ultrasound in a 78-year-old female patient with LLQ pain. Ultrasound findings showed irregular bowel wall thickening with loss of wall stratification, luminal narrowing at the descending colon, and multiple hyperechoic nodules with peripheral halo at S4, 7, and 8 of the liver.
