Ultrasonographic Diagnosis of Thyroid Nodules and Cancer: National Health Insurance Coverage Criteria and Standard Imaging

Abstract

Ultrasonography is a simple and safe medical tool for diagnosing thyroid nodules and evaluating malignancy. National Health Insurance coverage for ultrasonography was implemented in Korea, and coverage for thyroid ultrasonography has been in effect since 2016. In 2022, with expanded coverage, imaging standards for reimbursement were recommended. The diagnosis of thyroid nodules will be discussed in this article based on updated reimbursement criteria and recommended standard imaging.
