EXPERIENCE IN DETECTING UNAUTHORIZED LANDFILLS BY ANALYZING SATELLITE IMAGES IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN

Abstract

The autonomous non-profit organization «Center for Research and Solutions of Environmental Problems Ecopathology» conducted research of the territories of the city of Kostanay to identify unauthorized landfills of solid municipal, construction and other waste using the «Visual satellite search for illegal landfills» method in 2023. According to the methodology adapted for use in the Republic of Kazakhstan, 40 unauthorized landfills with a total area of more than 19 thousand m2 were identified in Kostanay and nearby territories.
