Abstract

Case notes of 308 longstay residents of a mental handicap hospital were studied during 1992 and the details of epilepsy management for 102 (33%) residents were noted. Theer were 58 (57%) males and 44 (43%) females, and 90% of them had an IQ less than 50. A total of 1986 seizures (83% generalized, 15.5% partial and 1.5% unclassified) were recorded. 72% of the residents had one or more seizures and 26.5% had more than 10 seizures.
